Cape Town - Spectacular South African City

In a local newspaper, someone wrote in to say that Cape Town was the only city in South Africa that could rightly call itself a metropolis (Greek for mother city), and hence it gained its nickname of being a ‘mother city’. There was even a time when it used to be known as ‘Cape Grab’ and not for any illustrious reasons…it was because of the grabbing practices of innkeepers who charged exorbitant amounts from sailors who passed by the Cape on their way to the East.

Tehran - a Mid-eastern Jewel

Tehran is a Mid-eastern jewel, the biggest city in Iran and one of the largest cities in the Middle East. Good climate, clear blue skies, its proximity to the mountains, its numerous parks and gardens with colorful blossoms throughout the year, and the sumptuous cuisine, all of this combines with many other factors to make this city a great place to visit.

Thessaloniki – a Living Museum of Byzantine Art

Thessaloniki, or lovingly called Salonika by its citizens, is second largest city of Greece, and the capital, chief port and commercial center of Macedonia—the kingdom of Alexander the Great.

Its importance is such that, Greeks often refer it as the country's ‘co-capital’. Its treasures of surviving monuments have made the city a living museum of Byzantine art.

The city stretches over 12 km in a bowl formed by low hills facing a bay. The city stands at the head of the Thermaic Gulf. It was founded in 315 BC by Kassandros, King of Macedonia, and was named after his wife, Thessaloniki, sister of Alexander the Great. Greece covers 130,000 sq km and is located in the southeastern portion of Europe. It is bordered by the Mediterranean Sea on the south, the Ionian Sea on the west, the Aegean Sea on the east, and the north by Albania, Bulgaria, Turkey and Macedonia (formerly Yugoslavia). The country also includes a great number of islands.

Casablanca - the largest city in Morocco

Forever immortalized in the Hollywood classic of the same name, Casablanca the largest city in Morocco seems to hold a romantic allure for many folk who have seen and loved the classic movie which stars Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman. Moreover the movie which won an Oscar in 1943, was shot in Florida not in Casablanca.

Unlike other popular destinations in Morocco such as Marrakech and Fez, Casablanca is actually a bustling metropolis. Located on the Atlantic Ocean, Casablanca is the largest city in Morocco. The Port of Casablanca is one of the largest artificial ports in the world and the city is the capital city of the greater Casablanca region.

Havana - The culturally rich but impoverished capital city of Cuba

Havana, the capital city of Cuba, one of worlds last surviving communist regimes has a long rich history associated with it. It was established at its present location, a natural harbor in 1519 and was a part of the Spanish Colonial Empire. Havana was declared the capital of Cuba in 1607. Spain lost Havana to the British in the Seven Day war of 1762 at this time many British traders flocked to Havana to sell their wares. However, eleven months later the British exchanged Havana for Florida.

Harare - formerly known as Salisbury, the Capital of Zimbabwe

Harare is the capital city of the land locked country of Zimbawe in Africa. It was formerly called Salisbury. The origins of this beautiful, sunlight dappled city situated on Zimbabwe’s central plateau can be traced to 1890 when it was founded as a fort by the Pioneer Column which was a mercenary force established by Cecil Rhodes. The fort was christened Salisbury after the third Marquis of Salisbury. The fort became a municipality in 1897 and a city in 1935; it reigned as the capital of the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland from 1953 to 1963.

Santo Domingo — The Oldest City in a New World

Santo Domingo, capital of the Dominican Republic, was founded by Christopher Columbus' brother, Bartholomew, and it is the oldest European city founded by Europeans in the New World. It was the first seat of Spanish colonial rule in the New World. Since then, Santo Domingo has been home to nobles and knights, soldiers, monks and slaves, pirates and damsels in distress.

Here you can find everything from an active nightlife to historical sights. The city is also one of the best places to shop in the Caribbean, and the hottest item on sale is the hand-wrapped cigars along with local handicrafts.
